Looked after properly, a heavyweight cotton tee gets better with age. Here is how to keep yours in shape.
Washing
- Machine wash cold, up to 30°C, on a gentle cycle.
- Turn inside out before washing to protect the surface of the fabric.
- Wash with similar colours. Wash black and dark blue separately for the first two or three washes.
- Use a mild detergent. Skip the bleach and the fabric softener. Softener coats cotton fibres and reduces absorbency over time.
Drying
- Line dry in shade. Direct sunlight fades dark colours.
- Dry flat if you can, or hang from the hem rather than the shoulders so the collar keeps its shape.
- Avoid tumble drying. Heat is what shrinks cotton.
Storing
- Fold rather than hang. Hanging stretches the shoulders of a heavyweight knit over time.
- Iron on medium heat if needed, inside out.
Our cotton is bio-washed and compacted, so shrinkage stays under 3% in length across the first three domestic washes. Washing cold and drying in shade keeps it there.
